Description
Product Overview
Sotaxim Injection is a broad-spectrum, high-potency parenteral third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic containing Cefotaxime Sodium. Engineered for immediate systemic bioavailability via Intravenous (IV) injection/infusion or Intramuscular (IM) injection, Sotaxim delivers rapid bactericidal action against a wide range of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacterial pathogens. It is indicated for the clinical treatment of severe lower respiratory tract infections, bacterial meningitis, intra-abdominal infections, complicated urinary tract infections, bone and joint infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, bacteremia, and sepsis.
Key Benefits
Broad-Spectrum Bactericidal Efficacy: Highly active against susceptible Gram-negative organisms (including Enterobacteriaceae and Haemophilus influenzae) and Gram-positive pathogens (Streptococcus pneumoniae).
Excellent Blood-Brain Barrier Penetration: Penetrates inflamed meninges effectively, making it a reliable therapy for bacterial meningitis.
Rapid Systemic Bioavailability: Direct parenteral administration achieves immediate peak serum levels for critical inpatient care.
Flexible Strength Range (250mg to 2g): Supports precise dosing across pediatric, adult, and intensive surgical care regimens.
Surgical Prophylaxis Utility: Effectively prevents perioperative bacterial contamination in contaminated or high-risk surgical procedures.
How It Works
Sotaxim Injection (Cefotaxime Sodium) exerts its bactericidal effect by binding to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located on the inner membrane of the bacterial cell wall. This binding inhibits transpeptidase enzymes, preventing the cross-linking of peptidoglycan chains necessary for bacterial cell wall strength and integrity. The resulting structural instability causes osmotic lysis and rapid cell death of actively dividing bacterial cells.

General Product Details (Shared across variations)
Key Active Ingredients
Cefotaxime Sodium (250mg / 500mg / 1g / 2g): Parenteral third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis.
Directions for Use
Reconstitution: Reconstitute the sterile powder with Sterile Water for Injection or 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection as follows:
IM Injection: Reconstitute with 2ml (for 250mg/500mg) or 4ml (for 1g/2g) of Sterile Water for Injection or 1% Lidocaine Hydrochloride solution (to reduce injection site pain). Never administer Lidocaine-reconstituted solution intravenously.
IV Injection/Infusion: Reconstitute with Sterile Water for Injection, then dilute further in 50ml to 100ml of compatible infusion solution (0.9% Sodium Chloride or 5% Dextrose).
Administration:
IV Push: Administer reconstituted solution slowly over 3 to 5 minutes.
IV Infusion: Infuse over 20 to 60 minutes.
IM: Inject deeply into a large muscle mass (such as the upper outer quadrant of the gluteus maximus).
Professional Healthcare Use: Must be administered exclusively by qualified medical personnel in a hospital or clinical setting.
Precautions
Prescription-Only Parenteral: Strictly for professional healthcare administration; do not self-administer.
Cephalosporin & Penicillin Hypersensitivity: Screen patients carefully for prior allergic reactions to cephalosporins, penicillins, or other beta-lactam antibiotics. Cross-reactivity may occur.
Renal Impairment: Reduce dosing frequency in patients with severe renal impairment ($CL_{cr} < 20\text{ ml/min}$).
Gastrointestinal Toxicity: Monitor for signs of severe diarrhea or Clostridioides difficile-associated colitis during or following therapy.
Consult an attending physician before use during pregnancy or lactation.
Keep out of reach of children.
Storage Instructions
