Description
Product Overview
Esover Injection 40mg is a high-potency parenteral Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) formulation containing Esomeprazole Sodium (40mg). Engineered for immediate systemic bioavailability via Intravenous (IV) injection or infusion, Esover Injection provides rapid and sustained suppression of gastric acid production. It is indicated for the acute management of severe Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) with esophagitis, short-term treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers when oral therapy is not feasible, and the prevention of rebleeding following therapeutic endoscopy for acute bleeding peptic ulcers.
Key Benefits
-
Rapid & Potent Acid Suppression: Delivers immediate systemic action to halt gastric acid production in critical inpatient scenarios.
-
Effective Bleeding Ulcer Management: Maintains high intragastric pH levels () to stabilize blood clots and prevent recurrent peptic ulcer rebleeding.
-
Parenteral Alternative to Oral PPIs: Serves as a vital therapeutic option for surgical, unconscious, or dysphagic patients unable to take oral medications.
-
Prevents Stress-Induced Mucosal Damage: Protects critically ill patients in ICU settings from acute gastric mucosal lesions and stress ulcers.
-
Targeted 24-Hour Protection: Sustains elevated gastric pH to promote rapid mucosal healing and esophageal tissue recovery.
How It Works
Esover Injection 40mg (Esomeprazole Sodium) acts as a targeted inhibitor of the gastric -ATPase enzyme system (the proton pump) located on the secretory surface of parietal cells in the stomach lining. Following intravenous administration, Esomeprazole accumulates in the acidic secretory canaliculi of parietal cells, where it is converted into its active sulfenamide derivative. This reactive form irreversibly binds to cysteine residues on the -ATPase enzyme, blocking the final, common pathway of gastric acid generation and reducing both basal and stimulated acid output.
Key Active Ingredients
-
Esomeprazole Sodium (40mg per vial): Intravenous substituted benzimidazole proton pump inhibitor that blocks parietal cell -ATPase to suppress gastric acid release.
Directions for Use
-
Reconstitution: Reconstitute the 40mg powder vial with 5ml of 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection for IV injection, or dilute further in 50ml/100ml of 0.9% Sodium Chloride for IV infusion.
-
Administration:
-
IV Injection: Administer reconstituted solution slowly over a period of at least 3 minutes.
-
IV Infusion: Administer over a period of 10 to 30 minutes.
-
Peptic Ulcer Bleeding Protocol: Typically administered as an 80mg bolus infusion over 30 minutes, followed by a continuous intravenous infusion of 8mg/hour for 72 hours, or as directed by the attending gastroenterologist/intensivist.
-
-
Professional Healthcare Use: Must be administered exclusively by a qualified healthcare professional in a clinic, hospital, or critical care environment.
Precautions
-
Prescription-Only Parenteral: Strictly for professional medical administration; do not self-administer.
-
Rapid IV bolus administration should be avoided; ensure the injection/infusion rate follows clinical guidelines to prevent vascular irritation.
-
Diagnostic evaluation is recommended prior to treatment to rule out gastric malignancy, as PPI therapy can mask warning symptoms (e.g., unintended weight loss, dysphagia, hematemesis).
-
Exercise caution and adjust maximum dosage in patients with severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh Class C).
-
Consult an attending physician before use during pregnancy or lactation.
-
Keep out of reach of children.
Storage Instructions
Store the un-reconstituted vial in a cool, dry place below 30°C, protected from direct light and heat. Once reconstituted, the solution should be used immediately or within 12 hours if kept below 30°C. Do not freeze.
